The overall aim of usability engineering is to design a usable application or to improve it to that effect. To achieve this, usability engineering comprises different iterative phases similar to user-centered design: from understanding the context of use to developing prototypes (prototyping) and finally evaluating them. To ensure the standards of usability engineering, various standards must be taken into account (e.g. ISO 9241).
