The mental model is a psychological contruct. It describes the manner in which information/processes/functionalities are represented in the human mind. Those mental models leads user to expect certain responses from a technological system and visual cues (e.g. power icon). Therefore it is sensible to use the users' mental models as a guidance when developing a technical application.
