Gamification
When designers use elements in the design that are intended to stimulate the user's play instinct, this is called gamification. For example, the learning points that can be collected in a language learning app in order to advance a level. Or the points card at your favourite café that gives you your 11th coffee for free. Gamification can also become a dark pattern, for example, endless scrollable pages mean that users do not get the satisfying feeling of having completed a task.
