Empathy Map

An empathy map represents insights gained about an individual user or a group of users. It is usually based on the following categories, which map the user's feelings and context: thinking, feeling, hearing, doing, seeing and saying, as well as pains and gains. It is important that empathy maps are filled with real data that comes either from user research activities, e.g. in-depth interviews, or from existing knowledge about the users (e.g. from marketing). This approach is intended to ensure that no assumptions, but rather real insights are mapped.

Empathy maps are helpful to build empathy with the real target group, to learn about their needs, tasks, challenges, goals, and difficulties and therefore to be able to communicate findings more easily. Furthermore, they can serve as a basis for creating personas.
