"Seeing what your users see."

Eye tracking or measurement of eye movements is a scientific method for capturing a person's eye gaze when looking at an object or application.

Using eye tracking, we are able to answer questions like:

  • What elements are perceived and which are overlooked completely?
  • Do navigational elements get recognized or do they completely escape users' attention?
  • Which contents do get read and which do only get scanned by users?
  • Do users get efficiently guided to their preferred content or are they getting lost somewhere on the way?

Technology

In the past, hardware having a threatening appearance (helmet camera etc.) was required for measuring eye movements. Nowadays, the test person can interact with the computer almost without any restrictions because the infrared equipment is completely integrated into the monitor. We can now setup a test environment that is to a large extent matching the users actual working environment.

Eye tracking and usability testing

Eye tracking can be used very well as an addition to usability testing. In this case, the eye movement of the test person will be captured with special hard- and software in addition to the regular recording of audio, video and screen activity during the usability test.

Result

The qualitative results of the usability testing are complemented by the quantitative eye tracking data, that way they help clarifying the reasons for the usability problems revealed before.

In the end you receive a detailed report with graphical and statistical data from the eye tracking along with the revealed usability problems and recommendations of action from our experts. If demanded we gladly develop and provide the design concept with the most important recommendations already integrated. The concept can immediately be used as visual template for implementation and that way reduce cost and time enormously.
